Sound of nature

Almost exactly a year ago we decided to purchase beautiful exotic budgerigars to our family. A bird that has been a pet bird since the 1850´s. Despite its popularity, at least here in Sweden, there are more cat and dog owners. This causes problems like difficulty in finding skilled veterinarians. In the Southern part of Sweden there luckily is a bird vet though.

I have mixed feeling about breeding this bird. We tried this Summer to breed our young budgerigars but instead we had some severe health problems. First our green and blue Australian budgies were happy together until the male (blue) fell ill. We were forced to put him down after over 2 months of medication.

We had the feeling this would happen and purchased two other budgerigars a lumina (female) and a male (

blue pastel color) to keep Lisa company in case her partner passed away. We named these two Polly and Pino.

Shortly after Hugo´s passing we decided to give Lisa another try and bought a English budgerigar as a companion.

Unfortunately he also fell ill and two days ago we had to put him down. My heart was breaking, since he like Hugo, was very ill and young. Apparently lots of the breeders that sell budgies especially to stores, don't think about how they breed their birds. By creating colourful mixes they risk their health, with genetical faults causing severe diseases, tumors etc. The vet over here told us to be careful in the future and only buy from breeders directly. Also to keep track on what birds have been used for the process to avoid unfortunate events.

I am saddened by the loss of our beautiful and kind budgies and will forever miss them. I luckily have their feathers left to remind me of how gorgeous they were and always will be!

Lisa and Hugo! <3
